Squadron : 2nd Squadron
Unit : Australian Flying Corps
Circumstance of Capture :
a ) Date : 14th October 1918
b ) Place : South of Tournai
We were flying in formation of five at 1700 ft with 3 other planes flying higher up. While manouevring for a scrap with a party of 12 Huns, we were surprised by five others.
When the leader of the last party of Huns dived I managed to get on his tail. After firing several bursts the Hun went stright down, apparently under control. I, myself being wounded in the back, dived away from the Huns and was again hit in the arm. I went straight to the ground and was taken prisoner.
I was travelling for two days and then arrived at a German Military Hospital at LOCKEREN where I remained for 14 days. I was then sent to Antwerp where I stayed until November 15, 1918. where I came under the control of a BELGIUM Civil Hospital on November 25. Then I was taken to No.2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station and arrived at Dover on December 12, 1918.
