Oswald Watt Medal of Bill Moyes



Bill Moyes is a distinguished Australian Aviator in the field of Hang Gliding. Born in 1932, Bill in 1967 took a World Altitude Record set in Toukley, NSW. Succeeded in the first mountain launch, from Mount Crackenback in 1968, achieved a second world altitude record in 1969, flew across the Grand Canyon in 1970, first Aeroplane tow in Wisconsin in 1971 and set a Balloon record in 1973. Bill and his son Steve dominated the sport of Hang Gliding in the 1970's and the "Moyes Boys" won almost every event for over 8 years. In tribute to his pioneering and innovation in Hang Gliding, as well as the Oswald Watt medal , Bill Moyes has also been awarded, the NSW Government Advance Australia Award, NASA Space Technology Hall of Fame, Smithsonian Institute Invention Award and the Order of Australia Medal.
