    1918 - Sopwith Camel

7 September F1415 LVG C. DES Henin Lietard
16 September E7191 Fokker DVII DES Frelinghien
22 September E7191 Fokker DVII OOC E Armentieres
22 September E7191 Fokker DVII OOC Armentieres

    1918 - Sopwith Snipe

    9 October E8052 Balloon DES W Douai(1)
    26 October E8052 Fokker DVII DES(F) E Tournai
26 October E8052 Fokker DVII OOC E Tournai

    1. From the research of Gordon Branch, the publications " Above The Trenches " and "The Sky Their Battlefield " have Barkell as flying E8052 for his two victories and when he was wounded. At no stage does E8032 appear in the War Diaries of 4 Sqn AFC. E8032 was actually on strength with 43 Sqn RAF (Ref Air Enthusiast International June 1974). E8052 was a Sopwith Snipe with the Squadron that logged 43.10 hours in 24 operational and 14 non operational flights of which Barkell flew 3 operational flights and 1 non operational. It is more likely that the aircraft in question with Barkell's final two victories and when he was wounded was E8052.
